On Thursday December 10, Tasmanian Greens Leader Nick McKim announced that I would be contesting the seat of Denison in the forthcoming State election. Greens sitting member Cassy O’Connor is heading up the ticket, with me at #2, Kartika Franks #3, Penelope Ann #4 and Peter Cover #5.

This team, as Nick said at the launch, has a diversity of skills and range of interests. These all help to provide sound alternatives to other candidates contesting in Denison. We’ll all be campaigning hard, with many Green messages on a range of issues to deliver a strong election result for the Greens!

I am very excited to be nominated by the Greens, and will be working very hard until March 20th to both listen to the people of Denison and have their concerns heard. I have a broad and keen interest in politics and feel that the experience and skills I have gained particularly since being elected to Hobart City Council would make a positive contribution to the Parliament of Tasmania.

There are many issues to consider leading up to the state election. My areas of focus will include the issue of Greater Hobart as a sustainable city, and a broad-ranging transport strategy for our city. This is too slow in coming from Infrastructure Minister Graeme Sturges.

These are just 2 areas of interest I have already been working on in my role as Alderman since being elected in 2005. We can and should be doing better for the residents of Denison.

I shall continue to work hard in my role as Deputy Lord Mayor for the people of Hobart, but do look forward in providing an alternative to the people of Denison for March 20th.
